Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi recently made a startling statement about superstar Shah Rukh Khan, suggesting that people may forget him in the next 25 years. SRK, who recently turned 60, continues to dominate the box office with hits like Jawan and Pathaan, even after the earlier setback of Zero four years ago.
Despite Shah Rukh Khan’s decades-long reign in Indian cinema, Oberoi believes that over time, even legends fade into history. In an interview, he explained, “At some point, anyone becomes just a footnote in history. Take someone like Raj Kapoor—he was considered godlike by cinema lovers, but today’s generation may not even know about him.”
“By 2050, People Will Ask, ‘Who is Shah Rukh Khan?’”
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Vivek Oberoi said, “Ask anyone about films from the 1960s; most people wouldn’t remember who starred in them. The same will happen with Shah Rukh Khan. Perhaps by 2050, people will ask, ‘Who is Shah Rukh Khan?’”
He further cited Raj Kapoor, grandfather of Ranbir Kapoor, saying, “If you ask any young fan of Ranbir Kapoor today, they probably wouldn’t know who Raj Kapoor was. History eventually pushes you into obscurity.”
Shah Rukh Khan to Create Another Buzz with ‘King’
Despite such remarks, SRK remains one of Bollywood’s biggest superstars. His recent films—Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki (2023)—grossed over ₹2,600 crore worldwide. His upcoming film, ‘King’, directed by Siddharth Anand, had its teaser launched on his 60th birthday. The movie stars Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Raghav Juyal, Arshad Warsi, and Abhishek Bachchan, among others.
SRK’s Cameo in Son Aryan Khan’s Show
Shah Rukh Khan also recently appeared in a cameo in his son Aryan Khan’s Netflix debut show, The Bads of Bollywood, which he also produced. The show features cameos by Bollywood heavyweights including S.S. Rajamouli, Karan Johar, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Ranveer Singh.
While Oberoi’s comments have sparked debate, Shah Rukh Khan’s legacy in Indian cinema remains unparalleled, and audiences continue to eagerly await his next projects.
