Unnao Rape Survivor Reacts to Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s Bail; Nirbhaya’s Mother Extends Support

New Delhi: The survivor of the Unnao rape case expressed deep anguish after the Delhi High Court suspended the life imprisonment sentence of former BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar, granting him bail. The court’s decision has left the survivor disappointed and determined to challenge it in the Supreme Court.

In a candid statement, the survivor said that if she had not married and had children, she might have considered taking her own life. She described Sengar’s temporary release as a “death sentence” for her family. Concerned for her safety, she stated she would rather go to prison herself than risk facing threats outside.

The survivor also intends to meet President Draupadi Murmu, to convey the pain and distress caused by the court’s decision. She highlighted that security for her family, lawyers, and witnesses has already been withdrawn, increasing her fear. Her mother expressed confidence in the Supreme Court, hoping justice will ultimately prevail. The survivor’s sister added that their uncle continues to receive threats, recalling the family’s struggles following her father’s death.

Struggle for Justice and Public Support

Women’s rights activist Yogita Bhavana shared a video showing the survivor being blocked by CRPF personnel while trying to meet her lawyer. After a tense confrontation, she was allowed to meet her legal team. Bhavana confirmed that the survivor sustained minor injuries during the incident and emphasized that she only seeks justice. On Tuesday night, Bhavana and the survivor’s mother also staged a protest at India Gate.

Nirbhaya Case Survivor’s Mother Extends Solidarity

Asha Devi, mother of the 2012 Nirbhaya case survivor, voiced her support for the Unnao survivor, calling Sengar’s bail “unfortunate”. She warned that granting bail to a convict serving life imprisonment sends a wrong signal to society, emboldens offenders, and undermines public trust in the justice system.

The case continues to draw nationwide attention, highlighting the challenges survivors face even after legal victories.
