Munger (Bihar): In a startling incident from Bihar’s Munger district, a newly married woman allegedly eloped with her lover just ten days after her wedding, leaving behind her marital home along with gold jewellery and cash, police officials said on Friday.
The incident was reported from the Tarapur police station area. The woman, identified as Sneha, was married on December 1 in Manikpur village and moved to her husband’s home the next day. However, on the evening of December 10 at around 6:40 pm, she suddenly went missing from her in-laws’ house.
Family Alerted, Search Launched
The disappearance came to light when the groom’s mother, Anjana Devi, informed Sneha’s mother, Soni Devi, over the phone. Family members searched for the newlywed woman for nearly two days, but when all efforts failed, a formal complaint was lodged with the police.
Mother Alleges Elopement
In her written complaint, Soni Devi accused a youth named Kundan Yadav, a resident of Dhanbad, of allegedly luring her daughter away. She stated that Kundan was their neighbour in Dhanbad and used to frequently visit their house.
According to the complaint, the family was unaware of when Sneha and Kundan developed a close relationship. Soni Devi also claimed that Sneha’s marriage had been solemnised with Kundan’s consent, and there were no prior indications of resistance or distress.
In-Laws Claim No Knowledge of Affair
The groom’s mother, Anjana Devi, said she had no knowledge of any love affair involving Sneha and that her behaviour in the marital home had never raised suspicion. She further alleged that Sneha had taken all her jewellery and valuables while leaving the house.
Police Investigation Underway
Police have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. Teams have been formed to trace both the missing woman and the alleged lover. Officials said all angles are being examined, including voluntary elopement and possible inducement.
“The case is under investigation, and efforts are being made to locate the woman and the युवक mentioned in the complaint,” a police official said, adding that further action would be taken after recording statements and verifying facts.
The incident has triggered widespread discussion in the locality, with residents expressing shock over the sudden turn of events.
