No More Post Office Visits: India Post Launches Home Pickup Service Through Mobile Parcel Vans

Delhi begins pilot project offering doorstep parcel and speed post booking without extra charges

By Ram Tripathi | New Delhi:
In a major step toward customer convenience, the India Post Department has launched a new initiative allowing citizens to send parcels and speed posts directly from their homes or workplaces—without visiting the post office. Under this pilot project, “Mobile Parcel Booking Vans” will visit residential and business locations to collect consignments without any additional charge.

Delhi Circle Begins Pilot Run

The Delhi Postal Circle has rolled out the service on a trial basis in the West Division, operating daily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Depending on the outcome, the facility will soon be expanded across the national capital. These specially designed vans travel on designated routes every day, making postal services more accessible and efficient for users.

On-Spot Packing Assistance

One of the key highlights of this service is that customers don’t need to worry about packaging materials such as boxes, boards, or wrapping paper. The booking clerk and assistant in the van will handle packaging on-site for a nominal fee—significantly lower than private courier charges.

Affordable Service Charges

According to officials, service charges start at ₹129.20 for a small parcel (0–1 kg) and go up to ₹401.20 for a large box (up to 50 kg). The minimum postal charge for booking is ₹500.
Delhi Circle Director Sunil Kumar stated that to attract customers, all paperwork is completed on the spot by the booking staff, saving both time and effort.

Simplifying the Postal Experience

While India Post’s Sales Portal earlier allowed customers to schedule home parcel pickups, it required complete online booking, printing of slips, and several formalities—necessitating a printer and computer.
The Mobile Parcel Booking Van, however, eliminates all such hassles by offering a fully assisted offline process right at the customer’s doorstep.

Strong Response During Trial

Since the trial launch on July 5, the service has already recorded over 70,000 parcel bookings by October, demonstrating its strong acceptance among Delhi residents.

This initiative marks a modern transformation of India Post, bringing the nation’s oldest postal network into the era of convenience-driven digital logistics—making postal services faster, simpler, and closer than ever before.
