KGMU Conversion Case: Investigation Panel Reconstituted with Woman Doctor and Retired IPS Officer

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The administration at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has taken a strict stance following allegations of illegal religious conversion involving a doctor at the university. The investigation committee probing the case has been reconstituted to include a woman doctor and a retired IPS officer, in a decision made after a meeting with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).

New Committee Members
Dr. Manju Agrawal, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and retired IPS officer Bhavesh Kumar Singh have been added to the fact-finding committee. The accused doctor has been suspended and barred from entering the KGMU campus. An FIR has also been lodged in connection with the matter.

Committee Proceedings
The committee held its first meeting on Monday evening and has created an official email ID—factfindingcommittee@kgmcindia.edu—for the public to share information and evidence related to the alleged conversion. The committee also found claims of disproportionate hiring of employees from certain minority communities at KGMU to be unsubstantiated.

Workforce Data Reviewed
According to the committee, KGMU employs 3,995 contractual non-teaching staff, of which 289 belong to minority communities. The Pathology Department has 51 contractual non-teaching employees, with 2 from minority groups, while the POCT department has 174 employees, including 25 from minorities.

Official Statement Team
KGMU has also set up a three-member team to issue official statements on the matter. The team comprises Prof. K.K. Singh (Committee Chair), Prof. R.A.S. Kushwaha (Registrar), and Prof. Anju Agrawal (Head of Obstetrics & Gynecology).
