
Shivpuri, MP: A 21-year-old man, Mohit Rawat, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a ninth-grade minor. The court also imposed a monetary fine along with additional jail terms under relevant sections of the law, including provisions of the SC/ST Act for protection against atrocities.
Incident Details
The accused befriended the minor girl through social media. On 20 January 2025, Mohit Rawat persuaded the girl to accompany him to a fair in Gwalior. Taking her on a motorcycle at around 4 PM, he led her to a room where he sexually assaulted her multiple times. On 24 January, instead of returning her home, he took her to Narwar before letting her go.
Evidence and Investigation
The victim reported the crime to her parents on 25 January 2025. Police registered a case and conducted a thorough investigation. DNA samples taken from the accused matched those of the victim, confirming his involvement in the crime.
Court Verdict
Based on the evidence presented by the special public prosecutor and the police investigation, the court found Mohit Rawat guilty. He was sentenced to life imprisonment under the relevant sections of the penal code and SC/ST Act, along with fines of ₹500 each. In addition, he received 3-year rigorous imprisonment terms under other provisions of the law, with additional one-year terms applicable if fines are not paid.
This verdict marks a significant step in delivering justice for crimes against minors and highlights the seriousness with which courts are treating sexual offenses.
