Tatiana Schlossberg, JFK’s Granddaughter, Dies at 35 After Rare Illness

Washington: Tatiana Schlossberg, granddaughter of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, has passed away at the age of 35 after battling a rare illness. The JFK Library Foundation confirmed her death on Instagram, stating, “Our beloved Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always remain in our hearts.”

Last November, Tatiana had revealed in an article in The New Yorker that she had been diagnosed with a rare disease and was given less than a year to live. The illness was detected shortly after she gave birth to her second child in 2024.

A Rare Form of Leukemia
Tatiana had been suffering from a rare mutation of myeloid leukemia known as Inversion 3, a type of cancer that typically affects older patients. In her article, she wrote, “Perhaps my mind is now replaying my life as I face an incurable illness and the possibility of losing all my memories.”

Over the past 18 months, she underwent intensive treatment, including bone marrow transplants, chemotherapy, and blood transfusions. Despite the efforts, doctors had little hope of recovery. Tatiana also reflected on her family’s tragedies, including the assassination of her grandfather President Kennedy in 1963 and the plane crash that claimed the life of her uncle John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1999. She expressed her sorrow at adding another tragedy to her family’s history, saying, “I have added another sorrow to our family’s life, and there is nothing I can do to stop it.”

Tatiana Schlossberg, daughter of Caroline Kennedy and designer Edwin Schlossberg, was a journalist and environmental writer. Born in 1990, she carved a career distinct from her political legacy, focusing on climate and environmental reporting for leading media outlets, including The New York Times. She married Dr. George Moran in 2017 and is survived by two children.
